Karina Halle è una scrittrice dai contenuti piuttosto forti, trame ricche di suspance e dialoghi crudi, cinici e sarcastici.
The Pact si discosta da tutto questo. Per i lettori che l'hanno conosciuta con le serie "The Artist trilogy" e "Experimenti in Terror" beh, scordatevele, questo romanzo potrebbe benissimo essere lo spunto per uno dei prossimi film della Hallmark.
Linden e Stephanie, sono due amici, migliori amici. si conoscono da anni e hanno collezionato risate e sbronze. Sono molto legati e la loro amicizia è forte....o forse non così tanto perché entrambi desiderano qualcosa di più ma non hanno mai trovato il coraggio di confessarsi, per paura di rovinare il loro legame di amicizia.

Linden una sera propone a Stephanie un patto: sposarsi all'età di 30 anni se fossero ancora single. Questo crea una serie di eventi che porteranno i nostri protagonisti a prendere coscienza dei loro sentimenti e trovare il coraggio di esternarli.
Quando ogni cosa sembra andare per il verso giusto, la paura e il peso dell'impegno fa crollare tutto. Saprà Baby Blue perdonare il suo Cowboy?

Ok, classica storiellina vero? Sbagliato!! Niente è scontato quando anche la storia più banale viene raccontata dal Karina Halle.
Linden, o Cowboy, è un ragazzone scozzese, bello da impazzire e con un agendina fitta di numeri di telefono di ragazze. Non ha mai pensato ad una storia seria, solo con la sua Baby Blue era possibile, ma quando si finisce di essere amici e si diventa fidanzati? Essendo inesperto e ...un uomo... non gestisce bene la cosa e finisce per fare un gran casino. Il problema che lui è adorabile, sa essere dolce ma un amante focoso, il migliore amico pronto ad ascoltarti quando più ne hai bisogno ma anche il compagno che ti massaggia in modo seducente i piedi dopo una giornata di lavoro. Non so come Stephanie abbia resistito così a lungo!!
“It’s okay to want me, you know,” Linden says thickly. My stomach quivers. I manage to shake my head and now his fingers are trailing behind my neck, running into the base of my hair and another shiver escapes down my back.“Since when is it ever okay to want your best friend?” I say softly, nearly choking on the words. Because that’s what he is, that’s what he’s always been.He smiled gently, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Isn’t that the best person to want? The person that knows you inside and out. Stephanie, o Baby Blue, ha soffocato per molto tempo i suoi sentimenti per l'amico. Rassegnata alla friend - zone per sempre, rimane esterrefatta quando lui le fa la proposta della pietà. Lei non vuole questo, vuole che lui la sposi per amore non come due amici...che fanno sesso. Non lo prende sul serio ma comincia a preoccuparsi quando i 30 anni arrivano e lui ad ogni compleanno le ricorda il loro patto.
Quello che le ha sempre impedito di concretizzare il suo sogno d'amore è il comportamento da womanizer che Linden ha sempre avuto con le sue avventure, ha paura che il suo cuore non regga nel caso la ferisse.
“I think I’m losing myself,” I whisper to her after we’ve come, our bodies naked, sweaty and sated, limbs draped over limbs, hands holding onto hands. My throat feels thick, my breath heavy, my words weigh a ton. “Every time I’m inside you, with you, I think I lose a little bit more.” I turn my head to the side to look at her. She’s staring at me with big, wet eyes so full of everything I could ever want from her. “In the end you might have all my pieces,” I tell her. “Please be gentle with them.”
Un amore forte, passionale, infuocato, messo alla prova dalla vita, dalla gelosia e dalla paura. Solo leggendolo potrete sapere come andrà a finire.
L'inglese è mediamente facile, dialoghi molto divertenti e le confessioni d'amore fanno sospirare. Non tutte hanno apprezzato questo romanzo, il timore di leggere qualcosa di "già letto" penso che abbia fatto iniziare il lettore con il piede sbagliato. Non siate prevenuti e godetevi la corsa sulle montagne russe dell'amore tra Linden e Stephanie!!
